About Me

Hi I'm Steph!  I'm a full time ceramicist based in Chicago.  Every wobbly piece here is hand sculpted or thrown, painted, and glazed by me through lots of love, time, and care.

When I first started ceramics, I was looking for an outlet to process my new reality dealing with chronic physical health challenges.  I started off learning the wheel and simultaneously sculpting little fruits with personalities that made me laugh. The pieces I was creating at the time really helped me heal in a lot of ways, and I feel honored that I have this job that allows me to continue to grow and create art that allows me to share some of that joy and silliness with others.

Since my work is so closely tied to my life, a lot of what I make is nostalgic and something that resonated with me and my childhood. From coquette fruits with stanley cups, to pickles playing pickleball, I really try to have fun and make niche pieces that make people feel nostalgic and seen.

Process and Practice

My work is primarily small sculptures, but sometimes I hand-build larger sculptural forms and throw more functional forms on the wheel. Every piece is one of a kind and has its own perfect imperfections and personality.  I have a few products like stickers that I outsource, but all the designs and characters are created by me.

Wobbly Pottery prioritizes sustainable practices-- every piece is made at a community studio that makes a conscious effort to conserve water and recycle clay and other materials that go into this process.
